Signature Racial Equity Activities

  • Convene and lead the Racial Equity and Justice Institute
  • Campus-wide implementation of measurable racial equity recommendations made by BSU’s Special Presidential Taskforce on Racial Justice
  • Shared racial equity leadership across the campus includes students, faculty and librarians, the Board of Trustees, the President and Cabinet, staff and administrators
  • Nationally ranked undergraduate research program recognized for excellence and equity
  • Academic course offerings and programs on issues of racial justice and equity available across all six colleges at BSU
  • Student racial equity leadership celebrated and fostered through multicultural student groups, BSU’s Racial Justice and Equity Student Advisory Council, and ongoing student forums on the issue of racial justice at BSU
  • Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice offers students opportunities to develop leadership skills in issues of racial and other forms of justice
  • Pedro Pires Institute for Cape Verdean Studies provides rigorous academic and social engagement with Cape Verde and the Cape Verdean experiences both here and in the diaspora
  • Intercultural student success services offered at the Lewis and Gaines Center for Inclusion and Equity
  •  Services and support for queer students of color provided at the Pride Center
  • Co-authored national model for and leading in implementation of racially just campus policing 
  • Regular trainings and workshops offered to campus members on racial equity practices
